CHÂTEAU SOCIANDO-MALLET 2003, ST.ESTEPHE

Robert Parker 94 pts – Wine Spectator 92 pts

chateauThe property was purchased in 1969 by Jean Gautreau who spent much of his time and money in producing wines of the highest quality. The vineyard originally had only 7 hectares, but now there are 57 acres in total. The final blend was made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc 5% Petit Verdot and the wine spent 15 months in French oak barrels (with 80% being new). It is deep ruby red in color with a garnet edge displaying very ripe back and red fruit, like blackberries, raspberries, licorice, chocolate, cedar, leather and eucalyptus. The nose is very complex once exposed to enough air. The palate is firm, structured, rich with multilayers of aromas and flavors and a black fruit finish. The 2003 vintage of this Chateau has been spectacular, perhaps the best in its history. It is succulent, delicious, and has great aging potential. It is drinking now – please decant for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the acids and alcohol to react for best drinking experience. Alcohol: 13.30 Acidity: 3.30 PH: 3.55
